Worn welcoming banner replaced by anonymous donor at Packanack Community Church

An anonymous note was left for the members of The Packanack Community Church and its message was twofold. The first mentioned the enjoyment they’d discovered in witnessing daily the “Be the Church” rainbow banner that had, for a time, been displayed on the church’s front lawn. The second noted how the writer had appreciated the multiple messages shared within the banner, including “Reject Racism,” “Embrace Diversity” and “Love God.”

Two years earlier the members of this church had voted overwhelmingly to publicly proclaim their congregation to be Open and Affirming. They believe that no matter who you are, who you love, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome. The banner, for a time, helped to share this message, but after an extended exposure to the elements outside, it was eventually removed for display indoors.

Along with the anonymous note that had been left was a package containing a brand-new banner—identical to the one that had once graced the church’s’ front lawn. It was promptly displayed where its predecessor had shared its welcoming messages.

Interim Pastor “Bernie” Weishaupt reminds us that God is still speaking and invites you to come hear what He has to say.  Sunday services begin at 10:00 a.m. and all are welcome.
