Rotary Club of Passaic Valley Gives Dictionaries to Third Graders

Rotary Club of Passaic Valley members Maria Martini Cordonnier, Jean Jordan and Sonia Roman recently visited Beatrice Gilmore School in Woodland Park as part of the annual Dictionary Project. The club provided every third grader with their own dictionary.
Students learned about what the Rotary is and the service projects it undertakes throughout the world. They also played a game that involved looking up words and provided prizes to the first student who correctly found the page and definition.
The Rotary Club of Passaic Valley also visited third graders in Little Falls and Totowa to provide dictionaries to them as well.
The Dictionary Project is a national Rotary initiative begun in 1995 aimed at improving student literacy. The Webster’s student dictionary is 540 pages and includes supplemental resource information for students.
