Local Jeweler Custom Designs Creations, Uses Eye For Best Quality Diamonds

Ever since he was a kid, Pasquale Spinoso has been interested in rocks.
As he got older, those rocks turned into gold, gemstones and diamonds with his profession in the jewelry business for the past 35 years.
“I’m fascinated with all natural gemstones and diamonds,” says Spinoso, president of Trevi Fine Jewelry in Woodland Park. “I started as a kid with a mineral collection. I always was interested in rocks; then I got interested in gold.”
He describes the quarry on New Street he used to go to at the age of 10 or 12.
“I used to chop rock and look for minerals and crystals,” he recalls.
But rather than a geologist, “Gemologist is what I like,” says Spinoso, the “precious stuff.”
In the 1970’s he and his wife, Mary Ann, started selling jewelry at jewelry parties at their home in order to bring in extra income to support their two children, explains Spinoso, who studied at Gemological Institute of America in Manhattan, receiving a Diamond Certificate and Diamond Grade Certificate. In 1983, they opened their first store, Affordable Jewelers in Staten Island, N.Y.; opened up a second location in N.Y., before relocating to their location in their home town in New Jersey.
In 2011, they “decided to go back home,” says Spinoso. “We were born and raised in Woodland Park. We grew up in this town.”
Family owned and operated for 35 years, Trevi Fine Jewelry is located at 1001 McBride Ave. Their daughters, Jeanine and Kristin, help run the business.
“They manage the everyday orders, inventory, social media and buying,” says Spinoso, who serves as president of the Woodland Park Business Association, and his Mary Ann serves as secretary. “Everyone has their niche in the store; we all split it up,” he says when working with the different customers and managing the business.
With a European style décor, Trevi Fine Jewelry provides its customers with an “ultimate shopping experience in a warm and comfortable atmosphere where we are dedicated in providing our customers with the finest quality jewelry at the most reasonable prices,” as stated on the website.
Trevi Fine Jewelry specializes in designer brands and custom work, says Spinoso.
“Any customer that comes in here, I start the design process,” says Spinoso, a certified GIA diamond expert and master jeweler. “We have several people that do different things,” he says. “I would start the design process, depend on what you are making; most of it is done in house.”
Sponoso “will handle all your repairs and diamond needs with the most professional and personal care you well deserve,” as stated on the website. “We carry the latest designer collections and also do custom work. Trevi will make any jewelry design you are dreaming of come to life!”
At Trevi Fine Jewelry, shoppers will find a “vast selection of diamond and gemstone jewelry, bridal, children’s jewelry as well as fine watches.”
Spinoso says “Our biggest section is our bridal wedding bands and engagement rings” with three different lines to choose from that include Gabriel Fashion, Verragio and Ritani.
Besides providing a great selection, Trevi provides restoration on watches as well as “all aspects” of the jewelry business. It will recut diamonds and precious stones.
A full service jewelry store, Trevi Fine Jewelry also provides other services including insurance appraisals by appointment only; gold buying for unwanted gold, diamond, platinum and silver jewelry; jewelry recycling by recreating outdated jewelry; full jewelry repair shop all done on premises with remounting and recutting diamonds, and servicing all fine watches; a registry with wish lists; custom design to create a unique piece; and free gift wrapping.
Spinoso explains that at the custom shop, customers can design and mix different designers into one piece. So, for example, “Verragio and Gabriel, we can mix it and make it.” A customer “can come in with a picture and we can make it.”
In the jewelry business, especially in the near vicinity, competition is great, but Spinoso explains why Trevi Fine Jewelry shines at the top, with experience high on the list.
“When you buy a diamond, you can’t just buy it on line,” says Spinoso. “Every diamond has its qualities which make it special.”
Spinoso says he uses his trained eye to select the best qualities in each diamond.
“I pick diamonds for customers by eye,” he explains. “For a one carat stone I may look at four,” with regards to color and quality. “It all has to do with what you perceive with your eye. You look at it with your eye.”
At the store, “I show you the diamond under a gem scope,” says Spinoso. Depending on a client’s budget, “We always find a nice diamond in your budget.”
